Experience

Senior Software Engineer, Storm Technology – Galway

Nov 2021 – Present

  • Owned end-to-end delivery of AI capabilities for a high-profile Irish state agency: designed and built chat functionality, summarisation features, a structured evaluation framework, and a user feedback mechanism using Azure OpenAI. Drove major time savings for frontline staff.
  • Key engineer on the agency's case management platform, managing millions of cases across thousands of users. Built on .NET 8, Angular, Azure Functions, Azure SQL.
  • Drove application performance improvements across the stack: selective caching, query optimisation, response payload reduction, paging and conditional data loading, reducing API response times significantly on high-traffic endpoints.
  • Diagnosed and resolved a critical thread pool starvation issue, enabling the platform to scale down from 6 Azure App Service instances to 3, halving infrastructure costs.
  • Built Azure Functions to coordinate workflows and integrate services across the platform.
  • Owned outcomes of penetration tests and implemented security best practices including IP-based rate limiting, timing-safe authentication, and constant-time responses to prevent user enumeration.
  • Delivered features end-to-end, from requirements gathering and database design through to API development, frontend implementation, and production release.
  • Provided technical guidance and mentorship to developers through code reviews, architecture discussions, and knowledge-sharing sessions.
  • Earned AZ-104 (Azure Administrator) and AZ-204 (Azure Developer) certifications.

Senior Software Engineer, Fidelity Investments – Galway

Mar 2021 – Nov 2021

  • Enterprise Cloud Computing team. Built internal platform features using .NET Core, Angular, Azure SQL, and Cosmos DB to help development teams across the organisation adopt Azure.
  • Provisioned secure cloud environments (VNETs, NSGs, RBAC) and automated environment setup with PowerShell, Runbooks, and Azure Blueprints, reducing environment provisioning from days to hours.
  • Automated API documentation workflows using custom C# attributes and Swagger, reducing manual errors. Managed API governance via Apigee.

Software Engineer / Azure Team Lead, Storm Technology – Galway

Jun 2018 – Mar 2021

  • Full-stack development of scalable cloud-native applications (.NET Core, Angular, EF Core, Azure SQL) with domain-driven design driving architecture decisions.
  • Designed and built event-driven system integrations using Azure Functions and Azure Service Bus with message queues to connect third-party systems (DellBoomi).
  • Designed and maintained CI/CD pipelines in Azure DevOps for automated testing and deployment across Dev, Test, UAT, and Production.
  • Developed a cross-platform mobile app (Xamarin Forms, Cosmos DB, .NET Framework API) with Stripe payment integration and a custom voucher system. Managed app store submissions.
  • Solo built a progressive web app for the world's largest medical device company to promote products to customers.
  • Liaised directly with clients to gather requirements, presented sprint demos, and attended sales meetings providing technical depth.

R&D Engineer, Medtronic – Galway

Jul 2012 – Jun 2018

  • Led catheter balloon design for next-gen stent delivery systems. Created development plans aligned with project milestones.
  • Co-inventor on two patents for drug-eluting stent technology: methods for customising elution rates and profiles.
  • Designed and executed structured experiments (DOE, RSM) and built predictive models that reduced material cost and iteration cycles.
  • Six Sigma Black Belt trained (Design, Reliability, Manufacturability). Taught DRM Green Belt modules across departments.
  • Travelled to customer sites for product launches. Presented engineering insights to hospital staff including doctors and nurses.
